Description
Tree Pose: This artist’s rendition of “Tree Pose” has the arms extending into tree branches and the bough of the tree. On the figures’ bent leg are the Sanskrit letters spelling “Vrkshasana”. The symbology and imagery of the tree, as analogous to life, is profound. We think of our roots growing deep into the earth to keep us grounded and stable. The strength in the core of our bodies keeps us straight and strong to weather whatever the winds may blow our way. Our arms reach up to the heavens for spiritual guidance, and the crown of our head opens to continued spiritual growth. Tree Pose develops concentration, coordination, balance, poise, strength, and grounded. Yoga is a life science that originated in India thousands of years ago. It is a system of personal development which connects the mind, body, and spirit. The word Yoga means “to yoke or join together”, bringing the body and mind into harmony. The practice of Yoga involves exercise, breathing, and meditation. Physical exercise uses poses or postures to affect the glandular systems resulting in improved, overall health. Breathing techniques or “Pranayama” help to unblock the circulatory, digestive, respiratory, and other systems to improve health. Meditation quiets the mind and relieves stress. Namaste.
